Green space in cites actively reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air, increase oxygen generation, counter the heat island effect, and reconnects nature with a world of grey. These benefits allow big cities to develop in a clean environment with conditions that are enjoyable for all. Cities will no longer be stifled by pollution, instead life will thrive from the streets to the rooftops.

The smart choice of a good quality growing media, the key to a successful vegetative roof (French article)

The reputation of green roofs lie in their aesthetic value and their innovative architectural aspect, but above all in their power to provide a wide range of energetic and environmental benefits. In Quebec, since the late 90s, vegetative roof assemblies have been consistently evolving with the development of new technologies and sheer number of installations. This also applies to the growing media performance that is optimized to meet the specific conditions of a roof or project. Soil science has become a major factor for the the building envelope.

Garden Roof Augments Vancouver Heritage Building Redesign

From a one-storey distribution warehouse to a 10-storey high-end commercial property, 564 Beatty Street in Vancouver’s eastern downtown district has seen a lot of change in its 106 year history. Fortunately, the design team, contractors and owner/developer involved in this transformation project had the vision and talents to deliver an exceptional property.  Although designated as a heritage building, the design team overcame the challenges inherent when working with older construction techniques and delivered a creative solution.  The result is a contemporary four-storey addition atop the existing six-storey heritage building.

Hydrotech Receives the OBEC 'Distinction for Materials' Award

In 2014, Hydrotech received the Distinction for Materials Award from the Ontario Building Envelope Council. This Award is given to recognize a significant improvement to building envelope construction or performance. The improvement must be demonstrable and advance excellence in building science, in the context of the building envelope.

Westmount Recreation Center: Recreation centre goes underground to save energy, create green space

Built in the 1960s, the former Westmount arena and pool were outdated and in need of major renovations.  To respond to the present needs of Westmount residents, it was decided that the existing facilities would be demolished to make way for a new complex on the previously developed site, which had the advantage of being close to public transportation and a number of other services, and supermarket.
